Press | Educators Call on Congress to Provide Funding for School Leadership

Washington, DC—More than 60 current and former principals, teacher leaders, and other school leaders urged the U.S. House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies to provide strong funding for school leadership through the FY17 appropriations process.

These outstanding leaders have benefitted from high-quality, job-embedded training through New Leaders’ growing suite of leadership development programs, which have been funded, in part, by several School Leadership Program (SLP) grants. Their leadership training has enabled them to strengthen teaching and measurably improve student outcomes in our nation’s lowest-performing schools. To continue making progress in our shared goal of ensuring every teacher and student can work and learn in a school led by a well-prepared, well-supported principal, these exceptional leaders encouraged Congress to provide strong funding for the School Leader Recruitment and Support Program (SLRSP)—the only federal program with an exclusive focus on school leaders—in the next appropriations bill.
