Press | New Leaders Commends U.S. Department of Education for Proposed ESSA Regulations

Washington, DC—Every child deserves a world-class education, and New Leaders is pleased that the U.S. Department of Education’s proposed regulations to implement key provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) emphasize high expectations for all children and reinforce the importance of providing teachers and school leaders with strong support to help students grow, thrive, and fulfill their potential. Moreover, we believe the emphasis on meaningfully engaging educators, families, and community members in the development of state and local implementation plans holds great promise. We further urge officials to specifically consult principals who have transformed underperforming, high-poverty schools so they can better understand what works and develop plans to replicate those successes for students in other high-need schools and communities. We look forward to providing more detailed feedback on the proposed regulations in the weeks ahead.
