Washington, DC—”We are pleased the FY 2018 omnibus spending bill preserves the current funding level for the Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants program (Title II-A), which our organizations have been fighting to save since it was proposed for elimination in the Administration’s first budget request.
“Overwhelmingly approved by a bipartisan Congress, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides opportunities for states to use Title II-A funds to invest in teachers, principals, and other school leaders to transform schools and improve student achievement, including through the use of evidence-based strategies. By funding Title II-A, Congress provides states, districts, and schools with the resources necessary to make meaningful investments in their educators and students.
“Of note, the 24 states that have committed to using a new Title II-A set-aside to invest in leadership can now move forward with their plans to strengthen school leadership and advance their goals related to school improvement and preparing all students for success in college and career.
“As Congress debates future funding for Title II-A and other federal programs, we remain deeply committed to ensuring states, districts, schools, and their partners have access to crucial resources that can be used to invest in school leaders and teachers and the students, schools, and communities they serve.”
