New York (NY) – New Leaders is strongly opposed to the Trump Administration’s September 5, 2017 announcement to end the Delayed Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, terminating critical protections for nearly 800,000 people, including hundreds of thousands of children.
We firmly believe that every student in America- regardless of background or legal status – deserves access to a high-quality education, and the DACA program exemplifies that belief. By rescinding this policy, the Administration is signaling that those students, teachers, and others who are a vital part of our education systems and society as a whole are not welcome, a proposition that New Leaders wholly rejects.
We urge Congress to act quickly to remedy this situation. New Leaders supports the passage of the bipartisan DREAM Act that allows members of our communities to teach and learn without fear of deportation, and upholds the belief that all children deserve a high-quality education.
