STATEMENT ON THE CONFIRMATION OF MIGUEL B. CARDONA AS U.S. SECRETARY OF EDUCATION

“With Dr. Miguel Cardona's confirmation today as the U.S. Secretary of Education, we are thrilled to have in that office a former school principal who understands the importance of thoughtful, high-quality leadership in ensuring all students can reach their full potential. We also know that representation matters, particularly in education. Having an education secretary who not only is Latinx, but also was an English learner who grew up in public housing, means that many of our students see someone who looks like them in the President's Cabinet. We look forward to working with Secretary Cardona to develop and enact federal policies that move our country closer to educational equity, especially for Black and brown students and those furthest from opportunity. To make this happen, we must prioritize investments in school leadership. And we must accelerate the diversity of education leaders at all levels.”
