Observation and coaching offer a window into what is truly occurring in the classroom. Together, they are powerful tools for supporting teachers in honing their instructional practice and deepening their professional learning. But how is coaching done effectively—and equitably? To fuel meaningful change, coaches and leaders of teams need to develop an equity lens in classrooms to shift mindsets and readily distinguish practices that remove barriers from those that widen gaps. Led by expert leadership coaches and former school and district leaders, this workshop will help you build the systems you need to grow the capacity of your teachers. Gain valuable insights on what to look for in classrooms, how to decide what to coach for, ways to gather data to demonstrate growth over time—and much more.

Coaching conversations with teachers build toward the future—and not a return to the status quo. As one leader explains, "I’ve seen coaching move leaders and teachers from ‘our kids can’t do this’ to ‘our kids can.’” That is the end goal: improvements in teacher practice that lead to improvements in learning outcomes for all students. In this workshop, you’ll take a deep dive into how we can achieve that end goal via effective coaching conversations. Together, we’ll explore common pitfalls and strategies to avoid them. You’ll review an individualized coaching plan and observe the coaching session that follows to assess and provide feedback on areas of strength and areas of opportunity. You’ll also role play a coaching conversation. Join our expert leadership coaches and take your practice to the next level.
