Mastering the Data-Driven Instruction Cycle: Action & Monitoring
This Workshop Is For:
This workshop takes a deep dive into the last two parts of the four-part Data-Driven Instruction Cycle (DDI)—action and monitoring—and how truly taking action on data requires educators to have both the skillset and mindset of corrective instruction. Learn what corrective instruction is and what it isn’t. Explore the intentional use of high-impact instructional strategies to best respond to student needs and shift educator actions. Create a plan for implementing these strategies and facilitating effective DDI meetings to ensure consistent implementation. We know strong instructional leadership is the catalyst for school improvement, particularly for underestimated and underserved communities. Translating data analysis into action is one of the best ways to achieve more equitable learning outcomes.
Establishing the Systems and Structures for Data-Driven Instruction
Sometimes, as leaders, we can be quick to move to solutions because we are eager to make change. But failing to set the proper foundation before implementation can undermine success. The same is true with data-driven instruction. Most schools have data, but not all schools create a culture for data-driven instruction that zeroes in on teacher growth and elevates learning for all students. In this workshop, leaders, educators, and schools unpack the Data-Driven Instruction Cycle (DDI). They examine effective strategies to build a data-driven culture, create staff buy-in, and avoid common pitfalls. They learn to assess their readiness for DDI and determine specific areas of improvement for moving forward. By developing these necessary conditions, schools ensure DDI is implemented with fidelity and equity.
Setting the Stage for Student Achievement Through Data-Driven Instruction
This workshop takes a deep dive into the assessment and analysis components of the Data-Driven Instruction Cycle (DDI), where you’ll learn how to get to the root cause of what’s really going on when it comes to student achievement. Learn how to critically examine current assessments, ensuring they’re aligned with rigor expectations and standards. Practice developing standards-aligned assessment tasks, also evaluating them for rigor. Disaggregate and analyze data through multiple levels—standards, student, and item—in a way that cares for every student, especially those historically silenced by data. This kind of intentional and in-depth data analysis provides powerful insights to inform next steps and shift instruction to directly, and equitably, meet student learning needs.
