I am delighted to share a momentous milestone with you. New Leaders is celebrating our 20-year anniversary. What began with a small group of eager educators has grown into a national network of K-12 leaders committed to driving excellence and equity in our school communities.

In 20 years, we have trained and created a powerful community of more than 6,000 equity-focused leaders, sixty percent of whom identify as leaders of color. Our leaders impact more than 750,000 students and serve as powerful and positive forces for change in their local communities.

New Leaders believes all children are capable of extraordinary things, and our leaders get results where it matters most: in our schools, for our kids.

  • Our principal preparation program has the strongest evidence of positive student impact.
  • Students gain additional months of learning in schools led by a New Leaders principal.
  • One in five New Leaders principals will be tapped for district leadership roles to further scale their impact.

We are proud of our accomplishments and humbled by the work that remains to be done, particularly at this moment in time. We believe that the quality of our schools is directly connected to the strength and vitality of our society. We all have a vested interest in the success of every child and every school.

I am deeply grateful to all of you—school leaders, partners, alumni, supporters, and staff across the country. As members of our New Leaders community, you live out our mission every day. We couldn’t do any of this without you.

As the legendary Congressman, John Lewis, famously once said, “We must be headlights, not tail lights.”  At New Leaders, this sentiment lives in our organization’s name, identity, and impact over the last two decades.

In the next 20 years, we will continue to press forward and develop transformational, pace-setting education leaders who will shape the next generation of great thinkers, problem-solvers, and leaders for our society.
